Nickelodeon has acquired the global rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from The Mirage Group and 4Kids Entertainment Inc., at a cost of approximately $60 million.
The deal also includes all merchandising rights. These rights will tap them into a significant consumer products business that has already generated billions of dollars at retail.
Cyma Zarghami, President of Nickelodeon said “We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to be able to focus on this property and creatively re-introduce it to a new generation of kids.”
The company announced plans to develop a new CG-animated series based on the franchise, anticipated in 2012.
