OFCOM Reports Huge Cuts in Kids TV Spend

The latest report by the independent regulator and competition authority for the communication industries in the UK (OFCOM) highlights a fall in spending on UK-made children's programmes between 2004 and 2008.
Investment by ITV, Channel 4 and Five on UK-produced children's programmes fell 70% from £42m in 2004 to just £11m in 2008. The BBC's spend on children's programmes fell by almost 21% from £97m in 2004 to £77m by 2008.
The number of hours of new UK-produced children's programmes broadcast by UK PSBs has more than halved from 1,887 hours in 2004 to 919 in 2008, according to OFCOM.
