A record 82.8m videogames were sold in the UK last year. This equates to around £1.9bn of sales, up 23% from 2007 and more than double the total earnings over the past five years. The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) released figures yesterday showing a consumer spend of £4.03bn on game hardware and software. ELSPA's spokesperson said that the growth of games pitched at the casual user had helped fuel the growth.
