Nickelodeon aquire TMNT

News today that Nickelodeon have dropped $60mil on the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Can this be right? Or remotely sane? For that they could commission and make 20 original animated series, they could launch and fill a whole new channel.
Also, if any more nitpickers have got a problem with our news headline we'd like to point out that while fully aquatic turtles do not hibernate, semi-aquatic ones do, which is what we assumed the TMNT were when we saw them running down alleyways and fighting with nunchucks.
Hopefully that will save anyone else phoning up and embarrassing themselves.

Motion Comics, Again.

the comic lot are insisting that motion comics aren't animation but are more like moving graphic images, not really a world away is it. quite a lot of Manga films use very similar camera pan and voiceover techniques. Take a look at this trailer for the new X-men ones, not half as cool as the SpiderGirl one but decent nevertheless and clearly something the publishers are investing a lot in at the moment.

more street stop-frame

You know we have a fondness around here for graffiti-style stop frame, as popularised by Blu, at least partly because these guys aren't blatantly trying to suckle on the banksy teat like the rest of the stencil firm. This starts out not looking so good but gets great by the end.

UP promo and balloon stunt

Here's a promo for UP, it's one of those funny ones that features entertained children and comments from totally, like, dreamy celebrities Bear Grylls and Stephen Gately, OMG! It's got some new footage from the film and the Up balloon over tower bridge stunt they pulled last week. I'm not saying you'll want to watch it over and over and over again, one viewing will probably suffice.

Fresh Blu

More shenanigans from Blu here, amazing stuff. We met him at Annecy, nice guy, doesn’t much seem to want to talk to the press.

Machinima #33

Machinima is a nice idea but I generally struggle to enjoy watching it. The modernity of it is appealing and I like the guerillerero vibe and the expectation everyone has that it's going to be good eventually even if it isn't quite there yet. The best stuff steals and mashes together techniques into digital collages. This is quite interesting

Vice's Terry Gilliam interview

We got a call from one of the nice sorts at Vice magazine last week asking if we wanted to run one of the articles from their upcoming film issue. We decided against Lesbian Amatuer Pornography or the Hitler Aids piece but they've got some amazing interviews: Werner Herzog, Lars Von Trier, David Lynch, the whole gang really, plus the following chat with Terry Gilliam ...
